That's all the major panels completed, It's time to strip it down and fully weld it up and paint it!

Working on the front lower wishbones this week. The prototype is on the left, made with hand cut parts, The new one with laser cut parts on the welding fixture ready to be tacked up. From a production point of view It gives me great satisfaction to know I can just order more laser cut parts, put them on the jig and make more wishbones accurately and consistently.

Brilliant news today I have taken the 2rike to my public weighbridge to find out what it weighs! all along I had a target of 360KG complete, and today to my relief it weighed in at spot on 360kgs Probably more luck than judgement. At least I don't have to look at chopping big bits off it! and my aspirations of a light weight 2rike hillclimb/sprint trike are still alive.

It looks good, what color did you end up going with? some sort of metallic silver?

That,s right "Captain" metallic silver, the choice of colours has improved since the last lot of powder coating I had done a few years ago. I must admit I am not a big fan of powder coating it tends to chip and then the damp gets in and it capillary's up behind it and it rusts! and its a devil to get off if you need to weld a bracket or something on it afterwards. But it was a lot more cost effective than having it painted! (The thing with painting tube is you end up with more paint on the floor than the tube, but powder coating is applied by electrostatics so it is attracted to the tube less waste) The Picture shows how I like to attach the brake pipes to the chassis, using stainless steel washer bent in half and welded to the chassis and then a cable tie and bit of split tube to hold the brake line off the chassis

It also has the added benefit of making our welds look better then they are. I went with black on mine since the overall color was going to be the same as the chassis color and I didn't want all the bad body plate lines to stand out by going with something bright. In the future when the chassis is under the aluminum body I can actually tinker with the chassis/body colors to create cool color schemes. Do you know what you chassis ended up weighing by itself?

A good thick powder coating will add strength to my welds! Ha Ha ..... I had intended to weigh the bare frame, but I was that keen to start rebuilding it I forgot all about it. I did weigh it just before it was total finished and it came in at 45kgs I would guess it weighs no more than 50Kgs finished Its all 1.5 inch X 1/16th wall cold drawn seamless tube so its very light and strong and exceeds our British motor sport specification for roll cage material

The clutch pedal assembly installed, I have made it with adjustable travel stops and cable throw so I can set it up spot on!

I must admit Dave I was a bit nervous cutting holes in a brand new radiator to fit the turned bosses for the fan switch and temp gauge sender Its a while since I have done any ally welding so I was not looking forward to it! Its getting the ark started that's the hard bit I find, once you get going Its OK but then the heat starts to build up so you have to speed up! I have found that you can set up and do a couple of test pieces that are spot on, then you start on the job and it goes all pieces. ( I think they call it sods law)
