I posted this up on my Lo-T3k Yahoo group, now that I found this group I am going to post it here. This is something I am going to work on by myself until I start getting some input and feedback. This forum could also be a great place to start this. How about some feedback when you get time, thanks.


This is my -----VISION------


A small reverse trike racer.
Spec motor. All the same, man vs. himself vs. man
Spec frame. " "
Spec width. " "
Spec length. " "
Spec tires. " "
Use the spindles of choice from an ATV. Most are close enough to each other
Use the gear ratio of choice. This is one of many reasons there will be a jackshaft

This is a very limited class.

We are not racing to see who can get the most power out of a motor or
who can have the fastest hands down trike or
who can sink the most into a project...this is to have all of the trikes as close as possible to each other, run a spec coarse and compare times.

It should not be hard to find or build a start/stop timing light
system with a visual time indicator. My local boy scouts have one
they built, I think.

We video tape our run with the time visible in the video and post it to You tube, Yahoo, and any other website that will give us free
exposure. We do this until we get our own website up and running. Until we get our own website we start a Yahoo group to post tips, settings, if and how you might have gotten it registered, and any other info.
We work on a spec track that is easy to set up and one
that will fit into a parking lot at the local church, high school, Vo-
tech school…mall.
We would need to look into insurance.
It does not matter where you run, there will be a crowd and when they find out that they can do it also…possibly get some high schools involved, local groups…teams…it could work.

Now keep in mind this is just the beginning.

By using a total spec trike like this we can swap the motor and be in a different class but have the same handling characteristics.
Eventually having different classes and different track layouts. But…

I would love to have my fuel injected turbo CBR1000, dry sump oil
system rolling on Wilwood spindles and brakes Corvette 18" chrome wheels with a fat rear racing slick, a tunable cantilever monoshock suspension………………………………............oh the list could go on but,

WE HAVE TO START SOMEPLACE AND WE HAVE TO START SIMPLE.


I see this possibly turning into an internet racing phenomenon.
The possibility of a West coast meet or a Central meet or an East
coast meet at some point even. Multiple classes with the possibility of head to head racing, not just against a clock, it could happen.

Someone had the idea to charge $10 or $20 for a set of plans, this set of plans would come with a serial number so that you would be an actual member of the club. This money would cover the cost of a website, a few people would be in charge of keeping the site up and running.

We need to spec this out, chassis, safety, motor, spindles,
tires………..give it 2-6 months.
We need as many as possible to actually build them and start working out the bugs.
Get them tweaked, work on some track ideas, get a few of them posted as well as the finished trikes.
Iron out some legal issues like insurance…and then Start racing and posting videos.


This was/is my VISION.

I understand the "Want to have options"…..but it needs to be a very spec trike at first then it can grow into more. The more exact one car is to another the more it depends on the driver skills. When someone new wants to know how much to get into it, it would be easy to say "…$$$…, and you build to these specs found here, and you race." "Oh by the way we meet here once every2 weeks to race, want to join us?"

Well there it is in a nutshell.
It has to be tweaked but it is very doable.

I am willing to start selling off things and make sacrifices towards
this. I would like to not be alone and have limits set to work with.
Anyone willing and wanting, It would be cool to have some company along the way. I don't expect anyone to have the hype for this that I have but if anyone is close, let me know. This could be, will be a wild ride.

I like the concept and the ideal...I will if you don't mind will empty my pockets and all I have is two cents...NASCAR started out as a poor mans sport...you could go to the wrecking yard and get anything that runs onto the track...now it is a multibillion dollar industry!...dirt bike racing used to be for most people who were not afraid to break bones...and yet it too has become out of reach...cart racing was supposed to be a fun cheap sport when it was introduced and it too has grown beyond my budget.

Get my drift?...if you start a new trendy sport it should have very strict guide line that should be adhered at ALL times...I live in Texas and could get something going here once I built this inexpensive RT...in this economy, any new sport should be financially attractive...I can too see your dream and vision...take one part quad and one part bike and combine the two...great concept!!

I believe that engine cc's should be limited like you suggested at first...it should be fun, economical and fun...oh! I already said that one...I don't know where you are getting your parts from but can say that replacement quad parts aren't cheap, not to mention they ride too high for any kind of good cornering...so a modification is in order...then you will need a welder and confidence to do the task or sub it out...I hope you don't take this the wrong way conceptzrgt, I'm just pointing out the facts...you had also mentioned swaping motors and getting bigger classes or something like that...I think what's missing here is passion...I clearly see you have the drive to make this work...this is what I see...the sport starts off with small engines and lots of people involved...then you start another class which has a higher entry to the sport cost wise, now those RT are more fun to watch and some of the original people you got into the sport are now loosing interest because it was suppose to be fun and cheap...then you get bike companies bringing mega buck RT's to the table and the next thing you know, the sport isn't for everyone any more...it’s just like NASCAR all over again...I believe that just like cart racing, you should have 3 classes, kiddies, teens and adult classes...it should be a strictly family sport...it should be fun and it should stay that way!

I believe you can do the same thing with one part cart racer and one part 50 or 80cc used dirt bike...plenty of speed and great handling...it would still be an RT but I can see this done for a much cheaper budget and cart parts are way cheaper then quad parts.

So this is just my vision and some ideals to ponder around with…I hope you don’t think I am trying to squash your dreams…I just wanted to share another mans opinion based on your concept and visions.

Interesting idea, I just have a couple questions. If you want to keep this a true spec racing type deal, how will you regulate the modifications if people are just sending in their own videos with times? There is no way to ensure you are comparing apples to apples (driver to driver). Second is safety/legality, which it sounds like your already thinking about. But if people are setting up their own race tracks in random parking lots for a time trial run there is no required safety precautions like you would have at a track? Not to mention I'm not sure the local police (or parking lot owner for that matter) would appreciate the fun?

Much like F3W, I'm not trying to shoot you down. Just curious how you would address these issues?

Good ideas, and as I said this is an idea in the making.

Over on my Yahoo group for Lo-T3k, we are chatting about all of this and looking deeper into the ideas of it as well as all the other issues. Feel free to come over and join the group. I will be on for another 3-4 hours and then I am gone for the weekend. I will not be able to approve anyone to join until Monday.

I like some of the thoughts here.

Here it is, but it 's not cheap! The cost to build a trike from scratch will surprise you.

I would be happy to start something up here. I have a bunch of pics of RQT, Lo-T3k and my CMTR. The problem I have right now is time.
I with others are over on my Yahoo Lo-T3k group working on the details of the internet trike racing. We already have a rule book started (thanks to another offering up his time). We are now in the process of fine tuning it, getting together a governing body, looking into legal issues and anything else that comes up. There is a lot to it but there are many that are willing to build by what ever rules we decide on and to help tweek where we are and where we are going.

I will get some pics and stuff together as soon as I can.

regardless of the topic, I'm glad you are posting here. I'm new here and a member of your yahoo group and other groups over there. but the reason for me saying this, is that all the yahoo groups are great, but the layout is very hard to follow sometimes. I work 7 days a week in the summer, so when i do find time to see if any new post are in my interest for my build(soon to be started) i feel lost or have to read the same post many times, any how, conceptzrqt you are a big asset to all of us RT fans, thanks
