I'm zeak from Laurie Mo. Been into motorcycles as long as I can remember. My father had a 77 shovel-head, so that did not help. Currently own an 07 Harley dyna SG. Had a chance to buy an 02 pontiac GTP with the SC 3.8 that had been hit in the left rear quarter. Hard. No saving the body, but we drove her onto the trailer under her own power with no smoke or odd sounds. This is what brought me to this site. LOTS of great info. I'm in the design stages to build a front wheel drive reverse trike. The mechanic I've trusted with this normally designs and build choppers, boats, and rock crawling rigs. He's a much better way to go than whatever deathtrap I could build on my own. My basic "needs" are Something that can be driven cross country. Has a large comfy seat for the wife and I. Is large enough that I dont feel like shaq riding a pitbike. I'll try to post a rough draft to give a better idea. Thanks!

One skill you need to learn and apply right now before you invest any more time, money or effort, is how to find, read and understand your state DMV regulations regarding the building and registering of a reverse trike. I can not stress this point strongly enough. It can make the difference between your project being a great success or a huge disappointment.
Do your own investigation of the rules, regs and procedures, others can assist with their experience and knowledge, but when someone says “Don’t worry” about something, or “I know how you can get around that reg”, start worrying about it!!!!!
When we start a project like ours, one must realize that our society has decided what they will and will not allow to be registered and driven on public roads. No difference than building a house, we must follow some rules and laws, whether we want to or not. But if we know the “rules” of the game up front, we can usually be successful whether we are building a house or a reverse trike.
On to your build, one suggestion I will give you, is watch the weight of your build. Some states have weight limits on what can be tagged as a motorcycle. Wisconsin has a 1500 lb limit on motorcycle tags.

Thank you. I have been looking into what that, but have not had much luck. So far, I know that it can have 2-3 wheels. Can not be enclosed. ( haft to sit on not in) Thats about it.

Most states have regulations that are common in other states. Up here if it is partially inclosed, the set is chair style you sit down in and has a steering wheel it is still a trike but the required endorsements are less. I do not think we have a max weight limit but 1500 pounds is a lot. I have no idea, without spending a couple hours researching Missouri's regulatory codes, what your requirements would be. I have spent hours searching my state for anything Motorcycle/trike related. Good luck.

From talking to my mechanic, he said that the problem he's ran into before on a deal like this. You need a bill of sale for all major components and parts. Neither of us could find anything on a max weight. Not to say theirs not one. The trike will be 6 feet wide and fairly long. As for the ride, it will be somewhat like a snowmobile, just with out having to lean to such an extreme.

If you buy parts from Ebay, make sure the seller sends a invoice with the vin and a bill of sale. In some states they will NOT take Ebay paperwork at all. So if the seller provides a invoice it looks like it was a direct sell. Little thing become huge when trying to get certified.

They had the Elo Motors Demo here in Florida recently and i drove down to check it out and it was OK at best.. they state that alot of the car will look better on the production model and such but i felt Cramped inside mainly due to being a broad shoulder guy.. the other issue i didnt like was that my legs were like 1 inch from the bottom of the dash with the seat moved all the way back.. basically pinning my knees against the dash in a way.. and im only 6'1.. the other thing i didnt like about it was how god awful slow it was.. it felt like forever just to get up to 35mph in the parking lot we were at and the little motor was screaming..

Yea , hope they have better luck with their Eilo motor instead of the geo motor in the demo protos .
