I have just started my reverse project, there is a certain look that I want but this is not considered best for the best handling and fastest speed. I would just like to say that I have 2 motorbikes, both of them projects that I have built, one my Ducati 900 Sport, 85 bhp, air cooled, not too fast but amazing sound and Italian beauty, the other other my Triumph Daytona 955i cafe racer project, 146 bhp, a total brute, the speed is unreal but it is just missing something? I prefer the Ducati, it is beautiful, sounds amazing, it just has a soul!!!! We all want to design and build something that is the fastest, best handling, most amazing thing on earth but how often do we drive it to the top speed, fastest acceleration, round a corner so fast that our brains come out of our ears?
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS.

Mostly I Agee. Soul,in my mind, is mostly about the pleasure derived from aural and tactile feedback you get from the machine while operating it. But..Can you fully seperate soul from performance? What if that Duke topped out 55 And slid out from under you at moderate cornering speeds. Would that effect your perception of how much soul it has?
Soul is just a value we assign to machinery we love because we cannot quantify it or are too lazy to try. Would the Duke have any less soul if it had another 50 horses? Performance is not soul But it is a one of the components.

It's definitely not always about speed or handling. There are plenty of people who love vehicles that do neither well. There are other connections that maintain the relationships.

I understand what you are saying but I like the Duke for what it is but no I would notfeel the same if it slid out from under me but also if you compare my 900 sport to a modern Ducati it just wouldn't compare. What I am saying is it just does everything that I want it too very well. I always fancied your all American Buell 1200 firebolt, it had the thumping V twin, quirky fuel in frame, looked good but when I tested one, there was something missing, didnt have that something special, then I had a ride of the then new 1125r, my god what a hell of a machine you just had a thought in your mind and it did it, Amazing, would I buy one, no, almost to perfect, almost surgical, no soul!!
