I have reluctantly concluded I need a car tire for the back end. The wheel is 5x17, big enough for a 195.,but I don't have clearance. Found a 175/55 Bridgestone on the net and thought I had it made. After ordering from bummer.com(name fits) I waited 18days and heard nothing, nor would they answer my e-mails. Turns out they are located in Estonia ., probably affiliated with the Russian Mafia. Anyway, I finally got a refund with the help of Pay-pal. Anybody know a legit source for this rare tire?

Thanks Ralf, I'll check it out... The shipping price from Germany is probably higher than from the U.K., but its kind of you to offer.

I bit the bullet and bought the $350 Bridgestone. Arrived today from merry old England. Seller was rod@motopod.com. The tire is perfect for the trike, widest possible without chain contact, and nicely rounded shoulders that should help the contact patch as it goes slightly off camber in the turns..It has a DOT stamp too, something I didn't expect but very important to you guys subject to big brother inspections. Rod was first rate to deal with, always answering E-mails promptly. It was air-freighted, and you should get a better price if you can get it sent ground. Even so its going to save me a fortune in time, money and aggrivation, not having to change the back tire every 4000 miles.

Got the new bridgestone mounted. Even thought I could have squeezed another 500mi. out of the old irc bike tire, I couldn't wait to see how the car tire compared. Well, to be honest I cannot tell a difference. The old tire had flat spotted down to about a 3.5"wide contact patch compared to the car tires 5". I do believe the bike tires' original patch of about 2" did result in greasier handeling but after it wore down a bit, its softer compound gave it equal traction to the care tire. With the trikes 98hp and 52/48 weight dist, its all works out pretty good with just enough wheel spin to allow bog free drag racer starts and hanging out the tail in controllable rear wheel drifts. I've never helt, felt or smelt anything more fun.

TT, I know this is an older thread but I found something you may like. Only $67.35 plus shipping. This 175/55 VR 17 is a nice tire and haves a 149 MPH "V" rating. I am running this tire in 155/65 HR14 on my scooter's rear. Look Here: www.tires-easy.com/tires-search/175-55-17?filtering=,price

I run into problems with 17 inch and even narrow 16 inch rims and finding tires that will fit and clear. In most cases I swap out the 17 inch rims and install a 16 inch then run a 175x60 tire. Life expectancy is about 25-30k but still much better than a MC tire. This is a common tire size on Harleys and Victorys (Victory runs 17" but the Vision is a 16 so I use that rim) Tires-easy is normally where I get most of my tires.

Even when you get a 80,000 mile tire, with only one in the rear and almost no weight transfer you will be spinning that tire a lot so maybe 25,000 miles. I check about 3 different tire wholesalers for tires due to one may carry a tire the others may not. TireRack, Tire-Easy, Discount Tire. Discount tire has a tire calculator that it lets you compare two tires. www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.do
