Good afternoon. Might as well share strange ideas. I have a 1950 Step through Cushman scooter. Don't remember the model, but have equipped it with a 12 1/2 hp Kubota Diesel and comet clutch drive. Works nice, but plan on modifying it into a reverse trike. The front suspension/steering will be a modified golf cart. Hook steering directly to the tie rods and have handle bar steering. This thing will have (hopefully) a top speed of 55 so performance is not an option here. Plan on making a sub frame to mount this to the Cushman so as to not alter the Cushman and have the ability to change back. Any thoughts dealing with sanity or what ever would be appreciated.

Please be careful of driving a golfcart at 55MPH. I have 2 wrecked carts that i bought cheap because they were modified to run at the 55 mph speed limit. The suspension just can't take any kind of abuse at those speeds. Both these carts flipped. One by dropping off the edge of the road into a ditch only 1 foot deep and about 8 feet wide, and the other just by running over a 3x8 speed bump about 8 inched tall. These carts were at the villages in florida where they drive carts all over the town. With no protection for the drivers, both were hurt pretty seriously. I still have the front end off one cart and i used the wheels from both carts to make 3 garden dump carts for some friends. That golfcart front end is so heavy that i discarded the idea of using it on a trike. Better to use a quad ATV front end that is lighter and built to run close to the 55 mph speeds.

Yeah, in there as is form they are not so swell. One thing is they are so darn short so they do get squirrelly. Couple of things different here is that they will be three wheel and longer wheel base. Also planning on not using the complete steering setup rather going from a steering wheel to a direct link to the pitman are throwing away the wheel and the reduction gears. By making a connection to the pitman arm in such a way that the steering will be slowed down a fair amount with out play I think that will help. Built a trike from a Toyota pickup some years ago with some linkage that went from a left hand seat to the center then over the hood to the motorcycle wheel. Early on it was to stable and you needed to be hulk hogan to steer it. Changed the trail and it was a lot better. Put 35,000 miles on that thing. See if I can find a picture of it to scan and send. Thanks for the warning, a golf cart as is seems like you should have religious music on the radio if you had one.
