What do you expect your battery pack to weigh? motor hp? I was looking at doing an EV conversion for my trike after I get all the design flaws evened out, mostly because the price of gas where I am at is hitting $4.30/gal. I want to just replace the gsxr 1000 with a comparable electric motor and controller. What do you expect the EV drive train to cost, battery to engine output?

blip,
We know that Europe has outrageous fuel prices, sorry for your misfortunes. It still does not make me feel any better about fuel going up so rapidly.
I put about a half a tank of fuel in my truck tonight and mentioned to my wife that what I just spent on gas was probably about what the entire cost was when I was a kid for my family to drive from California to Dallas Texas and back on our vacations to visit family. In the 60's we spent about 20 to 25 cents a gallon.

So, how's this build going? Did you decide not to go forward? Been over 3 years since your last post.

I'm sure they would. Other motorcycle rims do as well. The rear rim on a Can am Spyder was designed to be used with an automotive type tire.

Yeah but do not think of using a single Can Am 165/65 HR 14 front tire as a rear drive tire. The weight load rating is very low. It is in a size us Burgman 650 riders like to run on the rear but we will overload it quick. Two on the front should be OK.

Not an issue - that size has over 900 lb load rating

WOW, $209 for 1 tire in 225/50 R 15? I'd make very sure it will fit a Motorcycle rim OK. I am sure that with a little work I could get a car tire to fit. I am and have been running a Car tire on the rear of my Suzuki 650cc scooter, over 60,000 miles so far. I mount my own so I know how hard it is, VERY HARD. I have found that most Motorcycle rims are a bit smaller in diameter than a Car rim, by about 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch. This makes a car tire real tight on the motorcycle rim. Most rims have a drop down area where the bead of the tire can go in while working the 180 degrees around the rim. That transition area up to the beads seat must be real smooth and well lubed. There are tires in that size over on TireRack.com www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?customSizeSearch=&width=225%2F&ratio=50&diameter=15I would want to lay my hands on one of the Kenda's and measure the inside diameter, then compare it to a 15 inch Motorcycle tire before I ordered one.....

Dude, You post alot of beautiful pictures and have good ideas (not a big fan of the front wheel drive though) but I have never seen anything other than hopes and dreams. Somehow you are on three forums I am on, practical machinist, endless sphere, and now here. I have yet to see anything you have actually made. Your dreams are pie in the sky, I just don't think you have the actual means to attain them. Make me a believer...
