Hi, I've been following RT post for some time...now I'm really hooked. I've been riding for 30+ years, over 400k miles logged. I crashed a 2 wheeler feb 1,14, guy failed to yield turning left across my path...no where to go. Got busted up bad.. fractured (fx) r humerus, compound fx rh wrist, fx occipital condyle (top of spine, bottom of skull). Now, 3 mos out, still have no use of wrist, hand still swollen, finger/grip not progressing well. Bottom line, no 2 wheeling for long time, if ever again. My beloved Yamaha FZ1 is in tact with 137,00 miles on clock. I want to get her over 200k. Need to keep original frame, NC title as is. I prefer side by side seats and a short wheelbase as possible. Right now, cash is an issue...out of work till...who knows. Can anyone suggest an option to get me started?

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I started thinking about three wheelers while recovering from an accident similar to yours. After a bad wreck in an open wheel race car I decided while recovering to build an open wheel race car for the street.
When I looked at the WI DMV codes, I quickly realized that was not a good direction to go. A friend suggested I build a motorcycle, as the WI DMV codes are very brief for a motorcycle. The line that caught me was “no more than three wheels in any location”.
The rest is history; check the build Open Cage trike build on this website that was the first trike I built. Use your time to research your state DMV codes. Try CAD drawing on the computer or pencil and paper (paper is a lot cheaper than metal tubing).
By the time you’re ready to get up and going you can have a good game plan.
Good Luck on your recovery! A little time does wonders!
Jim

Thanks Jim. Actually, my infatuation with three wheelers goes back to the mid 90's, well, maybe before that. I saw the 3GV in Mother Earth News. I almost sent off $20.00 for the DIY plans. Wish I had, as MEN was sold and the rights to the plans went with the editor, I think. Anyway, many hours lost trying to get them, with no joy. Back to the mid 90's...A co-worker at Piedmont/USAir was wheelchair bound, and we talked endlessly about how he'd love to ride a motorcycle, how and what to modify, where to start etc. As many jobs go, he got transferred, we lost touch...but I never quit dreaming about RTs...specifically leaning ones. www.motherearthnews.com/green-transportation/three-wheel-car-zmaz83sozraw.aspx#axzz30KyTJsY5www.motherearthnews.com/green-transportation/3vg-hybrid-vehicle-zmaz83ndzale.aspx#axzz30KyTJsY5
