hello I'm new here, and to surprise you a bit I'm a 16 year old in highschool. I have no expierience working on cars, but a ton on snowmobiles, atvs, boats and the likes. which will make my project quite a different setup than most. I will be on a budget, and with my good relations with the shop teacher I can get some piping at around $1 a foot for 1.5'' thin wall. I want to try to incorperate fourwheeler spindles..... you know what I'll just post in the tech subforum! get ready for strange ideas and lolz!

Sounds liker a good plan. I have a JZR British cycle car with a Honda CX650 motorcycle engine. I have had it on the road for about four years and stopped counting reciepts at 17 thousand dollars.

woah thats really expensive! how much stuff did you put into it? I'm hoping to spend less than 5k on mine. I don't plan to do any body work to it, just some sheet metal on the floor, and maybe side panels. like I said the motor will be real cheap, around 400$ and would put out about 120hp, is that strong enough? I want to gear it to max out at 100, I hope I can get some good low end torque

Welcome new comer..........
It's my first time building as well and I am about $8000.00 in to it but I didn't get lucky enough to have a cheap doner vehicle. I had to go and buy a complete running bike for 3200.00 so that of course set me deeper. Finding wrecked bikes for a decent price with these types of engines is hard to do around here in Texas. Even the wrecked hyabussa's going in actions sell for about 4000.00. I couldn't see myself spending 4000.00 on a wrecked bike knowing what condition the engine was truely in.
No such luck finding a snowmobile here in the deep south part of Texas where it NEVER snows.........LOL!
120HP ought to be more than enough if you are going light on the body paneling and especially if it's a 1 seater.
Campagna originally used a 180hp on the 2 seated Trex and it goes 0-60mph in about 8-10 seconds I think which is plenty fast enough for the street.
I am using a 4 cylinder Suzuki bandit 1200 engine advertised at 100hp for my bandit project and shooting for a 80-90 mph range at about 6000rpm but I am going for all around performance and fuel economy so take off speed isn't really my target and I am not planning on drag racing it.
I am actually even considering supplimenting the fuel with Hydrogen to gain power and economy boosts. If I need to I will turbo the engine and get another 50hp out of it if it is too sluggish.
Good luck on keeping the cost down but unless you have access to a lathe and machinist tools to build all the brake and steering components you will end up either buying junk yard parts which is risky due to the wear and tear and age of them which will be in need of repair anyway before they will actually work and be reliable or you will have to start buying parts on EBAY or parts stores. Sometimes the junk yards charge too much for the stuff.
It's alot of work but seeing the progress and dream come to life pays off.
Good luck to you.
There is alot of info here to browse through.
