HI,
Welcome aboard!
Try to find the Massachusetts DMV website and read what is and is not allowed in your state.
Doing your own research assures you that you know what is legal. Most states have different, but similar regulations.
Taking someone else's word may cause you to build a vehicle that can not be registered in your state.

Probably the easiest way to get the info you need is to just go down there and ask one of the clerks what you need. I do know that in California they want you to show proof of purchase on all the items in the vehicle you build.

Or course, Its going to be way different in Okla. but I have a street legal trike with an atv frontend. They were more interested that I document the source and price of all the components than anything else. They wanted to collect sales tax on all out-of state purchases.
The trike was never inspected prior to a plate being issued, though I did show them a picture, mostly to satisfy their curiosity.
They left conformity to the law for road use up to whatever cops may see it out on the road. I haven't had a problem yet.
I got most of my help with legal requirements from the local tag agency. In okla. these are privately owned licenced by the state businesses. They were way more kind and generous with their time than I ever would have expected, doing a ream of paper work, with little profit to themselves. Needless to say I was very grateful.
