I am a custom bike painter painting bikes from all over the US and have been interested in building an RT for a couple of years now. I purchased a 1500 Goldwing thinking that I would do the Xilerator but now have switched gears to a sportbike powerplant. Still have the 1500 but just taking up garage space!
Pook's Predator X build is exactly what I have envisioned but that thread seems to have stopped. Need frame assistance more than anything as I have been known to be somewhat mechanically inclined and full of innovative thinking.
I have ordered a Tube Bender and Notcher and will try my hand at a 'mockup' as soon as they arrive......So EXCITED ! I think I can 'tack weld' good enough to assemble and get the frame to a real welder for finish.
Always looking for ideas and building help but want to get something done by Sturgis Rally next year so I need to get hopping. Hopefully there will be some 'new life' in the forum soon.

Welcome to the reverse trike forum, Painter. Here's Pook's photo Bucket site, but i think he has sold the Predator X project to finance his starting a business. s186.photobucket.com/albums/x242/pook317/The thought of building a complete trike in less than a year is amazing to me. First i had to build me a garage, then start buying the tools needed to build me a trike, and then start accumulating parts and materials to get a trike built. After three years i think i am ready but still changing my mind on the layout and parts needed to do what i want. It's kinda hard to build a hardtop enclosed trike and keep it under 1000 lbs.I'm leaning toward a wider sidebyside version of Arak's Alantric trike. Please take lots of picture's and post them here if you can and would. I love it when people have different view's than me and i can learn new things i might have never thought of. I'm sure many others that come here would love to see your idea's. SRX660

Actually I have a 40x60 shop, most all tools anyone would need and now some time to build 7 day a week. Hoping to gather some more ideas from this forum and yes, I will take pics and post once started.
Thanks for Pook's photobucket. Great help.

Painter, I am pretty close on mine and plan to also take it to sturgis next year. I am in Colorado, and I have a buddy in Denver with a finished reverse trike that showed interest in heading to Sturgis as well. Please keep me posted and we can all make the trip together. - Scott

Scott,
We will be going the week before the Rally and staying 11 days leaving Wednesday during the Rally. We stay in Blackhawk. We go with 12 others every year and this year we are meeting up with at least 8 more. What a great time!
I'll keep you posted and feel free to PM me anytime. I will check this forum daily.
If, by chance, I am not complete by Sturgis I will still be going on the bike.

Now looking at a GSXR or CBR 1000. Don't really know about reverse but maybe going with a pre-made reverse gearbox. However ..... pretty expensive!
Front end choices:
1. Mustang II 2. Miata 3. VW Beam
Still looking at the Predator X frame as I really like that look.

I used a mustang II. Easy to find and get aftermarket parts for. Type a search on Ebay for Mustang II front and see what comes up. I think you will be surprised.

Why not go with a VW narrowed beam? It seems simple, complete and easy to set up?

Just sitting here thinking and would like suggestions from those still alive out there. I have already a 1500 Goldwing.... maybe...just maybe I'm thinking. 1. 1500 has reverse already, enough HP and torque. And I can't seem to find a suitable crotch rocket motor affordable enough. 2. Mount 1500 with short drive shaft to a middle gear (90 degree shaft to chain output) These are found on some 750 - 1100 cc motorcycles and I already have one. 3. Suzuki Busa swing arm ... chain to rear wheel. 4. Narrowed VW ball joint w/ disk brakes (simple, complete, easy to install and parts available new and used) comments ? questions ??

Now that you have a good drivetrain and suspension setup worked out, what style are you looking for? My preference is a widened VW front end for stabillty, and since all roads in the US are at least 8 feet wide why not run the width wider. maybe something like this? Modern or old style really doesn't matter. All that really counts is what you want it to look like.I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of your build. Take thousands of them. SRX660

Thanks for the comments 660 !
I really am going for a 'motorcycle' rather than a 'car' . I love the classy bodies of some of the builds I've seen but I yearn for the 'open road feel' as I have with my bike.
I really don't mind getting a little wet in the rain or cold in the winter or hot in the summer......It's all good ! What matters the most is the engineering, thought process, unique designs coming out of our heads and the out and out 'balls' to build something that we will ride in or on at 70+ MPH !!
RT's have captured my imagination ! Some build as cars but mine will have the top down ...... all the time! I'll get in my Z-350 if I want a car. RT's are a different type of motorcycle to me.
When I get things together (and I will), I will start a thread with pic after pic and hopefully get some blood pumping here and there!!!!
