In 2008 BRP introduced the CanAm Spyder, While it is the first commercial motorcycle trike built "correctly" with the focus on steering and handling geometry it was not well received. The average motorcyclist didn't understand the leap forward this design offered, they just thought it looked funny.
As time progressed more and more people are drifting towards this new concept (new to them anyway)
Unfortunately the Spyder has been plagued with electrical malfunctions and BRP insists on the inclusion of the problematic VSS systems. But each year progress is still being made.
In 2014 Endeavor (my company) released a universal RT conversion kit using a 2010 yamaha raider for the vehicle. We displayed this unit at the 2010 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Until this year we were the only commercial MC RT conversion company in the World with this design and first to market and received very good reviews from customers and cycle magazines. Just recently MotorTrike and Hannigan motorsports released their versions however theirs are designed for the Honda GL1800 only.
I think the handwriting is on the wall and there will be a shift from the Delta builds to Tadpole over the next 5 years or so. Now the real challenge is to change public opinion that trikes are not a compromise but rather an extension of the sport rider field.
As the owner/engineer I am constantly tuning and adjusting. Everytime I think I have it all together I discover a new idea and better way. I monitor many MC blogs but information is scarce and bleek. Most MC boards are focused on standard over maintenance projects and placebo cures. It's nice to go through this board where real discoveries are being discussed with actual and measurable results.
