I have a deposit in for one of these in the Hybrid configuration, but they keep extending out the delivery date. Late 2010 now. Also they have just made it a front wheel drive. I think their new CEO from Detroit is really affecting them. Hope it's for the best.

I'd be weary about them changing the drive train...don't you think the overall design will change with it going to a front wheel drive hybrid configuration?...I would want to see their design changes before continuing any kind purchase...that's just me.

HOW can the front suspension work with no apparent pivot points?

You can see the push rod, the a-arms just have big aerodynamic fairings over each of them. I saw this thing in Long Beach at the Indy race before the company went broke. To bad really, its one of the few trikes new ideas I thought was really well done.

I followed the links you gave and it seems as if the company split in two. I could be wrong but it seems like the American part of it is going to make gas and hybrid models of this excellent design. At least I hope they do. One thing that I wondered about it is how high the CG is. I can think of some advantages of having a higher vehicle, especially when designing in crumple zones and hydralic components for roll cages and other protective elements, including visability. I rode a quite low recumbent bike for years and the biggest problem was the situational unawareness of other drivers. So much as I would like to design somthing that was like an indy car in height, it just isn't safe on real roads. ON the other hand this design seems to be aero not only frontally but in cross section also, so that presumably despite its lite weight is is not blown off the road by passing rigs, or one would hope so.

Bought a wrecked Chinese scooter for the power train - tag says Jonway. Huh. BTW, that Aptera AIN'T a roadster!
