Hello everyone, first off thanks to the administrators & all who contribute, it making for a great resource.
I’m planning my first RT & looking for a bit of guidance from those which have done a similar build before.
The concept: Mazda MX5 Miata front subframe, custom chassis connected to FJ1200 1987 Looking forward to styling the body & fabricating it from fibreglass, Jaguar or Lotus inspired style..
My first choice was for Goldwing (lots of torque & shaft drive). Due to budget I’m considering the Yamaha FJ1200, it could also make the reversing challenge easier. -does anyone have experience with this bike/engine? Anything I need to watch for?
- Miata front suspension subframe, steering column, master cylinder, anything I need to watch for?
Thanks in advance, Darryl

While the miata front end is a good choice, the springs are way too heavy for a RT . The subframe is also way overkill in weight. I think by building a steel tube frame designed so the miata a-arms and steering bolt into the frame lightens it up and by using coil-over shocks you can match the springs to the weight you need. Check out the locost website for general suspension needs and ideas. www.locostusa.com/forums/If you join the three wheeler replicas yahoo group you can see the TreeVee trike there which i think is an excellent design. Look at the last group of pictures there. autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/3WheelerReplicas/The FJ series of yamaha bikes are very reliable. A friend of mine has a FJ 1100 with 88,000 miles and only routine maintence on the bike and it still runs great. They do NOT have a reverse gear to my knowledge. If you do build, take lots of pictures and post them here. Everyone that comes here loves seeing other peoples ideas. SRX660
