So, i just wanted to toss this idea for a reverse gear on a motorcycle powered reverse trike. The gearbox internals come from a later model outboard motor lower end. I am going to make a welded case of steel with the help of a local experienced machinist friend i met from this forum. The idea is to use a lower end off the outboard that is 100(or more)HP rated. May take a while but i will take the time to document everything. Here's a typical outboard gear ass. I am thinking that this will be a right angle gearbox that sets beside the original drive sprocket of the motorcycle engine and is splined to fit the sprocket shaft. The out side of the gearbox could be splined to fit a motorcycle shaft drive assembly(at a loss of some HP to the wheel). A second idea is to use just the single shaft and gear switch lever in a inline arrangement with the outboard shaft splined for a chain sprocket. The only problem i see here is the lenght of the gearbox may put the rear sprocket well outside a normal cycle swing arm width. Doable but not as simple as using a shaft drive setup. I already have a working kawasaki 900 eliminator drivetrain to use. I also have access to many outboard parts by living on the west coast of florida. the reason for my thinking of the chain drive is simplicity for everyone to find parts for a build. P.S. I am also trying out the postimage.org picture hosting website for posting pic's to this forum. Anyone else's thoughts would be welcome. srx660

A friend is working on an electric engagement system that uses a Air Conditioning compressors clutch that would free wheel until you throw the switch and the clutch would lock and then the electric motor will move the trike backwards.
That picture above can not be expanded to view larger. Hummmm.

I will keep experimenting with the post image site for larger pictures. SRX660

The Harbor Freight winch moter with built-in gear reduction (around $60), is working great with the 4.125" roller. It's a simple and safe design that doesn't interfere with the existing drive train. Chec
