I have been searching the web for a decent tubing bender for some time...I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of bends and ease of fabricating this DIY HD bender...and it will accept dies from 1/2" all the way to 2"...this bender will also do square tubing with another set of dies. The one nice attraction about this bender is that there is no more hand pumping...it's as if you will have the luxury of a high dollar bender at your convenience for only a fraction of the price...in fact, I will bet that you will have even more friends with this bender...I do plan to build one of these as I have ordered the plans myself...Harbor Freight has the jack for $99...oh, and if you don't want to do the drilling, they sell those parts already done...a little pricey if you ask me, but it will save you a lot of time...the only thing I will change is the height...I think I want mine at waist height...I don't want to be bending over all the time...no pun intended ;D Bender plans link: www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htmDave

I am getting close to releasing a high quality affordable tube bender.

I kicked around building a bender, but ended up buying a used Pro tools model 105 bender. Great bender with degree wheel for repeatable bends and 1 1/4", 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" dies. The 1 1/2" die is a 180 degree. Good quality tools make your job easier.

Good tools are important. My bender will use Pro tools dies. It is a vertical design so it doesn't have to be fastened down, and is hydraulic so no trying to read a degree wheel while yanking on a bar. It uses a digital angle finder.

Sounds nice. I have pegs to stop the bender for repeat bends. I cut a 1 foot square hole in my garage and driveway (garage is behind house, so you drive past the house on the right side and turn right to go into it, everything is in the backyard) I cemented a 4" thick wall square tube in each of them about 6" deep. All of my large tools have a 3 1/2" stub on the bottom and slide into the piece in in the ground. I can pull, push and beat on them and they won't budge. Yet they interchange quickly. I don't bend that much to worry about hydraulics. Someday I'll find the right ram and Harbor Freight has an air over hydrauilic pump I can use. I'll machine the rest.

Mine uses an air over hydraulic ram, or if desired a hydraulic ram. Easy to purchase anywhere. Sounds like your work space is well organised.

It's in there. Where did you get the head fairings? Are those headlight buckets? Cool.

Yes, they are some headlight buckets I picked up at the Pomona swap meet. Don't know what they are off of.

I see we both use the same kitty litter buckets for the same purposes!! Building a tube chassis without a tube bender is very limiting. Besides, curves are beautiful.

Have a remote hydraulic release and mounted the air valve. Much nicer to use.
