Hi, I am relatively new to reverse trikes. I have been looking at this forum for a while looking for ideas. I recently obtained trike plans and about to start my build. I got many questions and hope someone has answers.

Thanks, one question right off the bat: I have plans to build the xzilarator trike (http://www.xzilarator.com/xzilarator.php) and wonder what other donor bikes I could use beside a goldwing? (its way too expensive to find a used one that runs)

The engine mounts could be modified to fit about anything. The main reason to use a Goldwing 1500 or 1800 is a reverse gear. Go look at some of the online auctions. Most you must join and they have many different fees that all have to be added. I have bought 5 vehicles from Copart www.copart.com and a good deal can be had. When you buy a auction bike, all the parts not used could be sold. You may have to get the main state police to inspect it and run a VIN check. I would think a Burgman 650 engine would be about the smallest I would try. But no reverse. Did a quick check on Copart.com. There are 8 GL1500's and 17 GL1800's. If they have a CT (CERTIFICATE of TITLE) you may or may not be able to bid on them, its a local law thing. The inventory changes.

thankyou, I have been looking, but waiting to find just the right bike. I got a bug question though. I found plans for the sport cycle reverse trike and am going to use those instead of the xzilarator. The plans call for 1/8 inch thick square tubing. I need a chop saw and not sure which to get. I have seen the dewalt, ridgid, craftsman, and many others, but I do not know much. Does anyone have a recommendation on which is the best? I can spend no more than 200 in it but it is pretty important piece in order to start the project.

Depends how much you are going to use it. I had a cheap knock off like the ones Harbor Freight have and it lasted 5 years. I use my chop saw a lot. I now have a Ridged saw I got from a guy who bought it just to cut a few pieces of steel for a job. It was $40.00. When this one goes I'll buy a cold saw. Go with a cheap one if you aren't going to use it much more than this build. Go with a good one if you plan on using it for a long time.

Well I have started and cut some of the frame. I need to get some angled metal to finish off the frame. Got a seat, 5-point harness and spindles. I just don't know what to do for suspension. Attachment Deleted

ok I need some advice from whoever reads this out there. So I got my frame fully welded. I got the control arms on, roll bars, the whole 9 yards. Everything except for a drive train. I was just wondering if you guys think it would be a good idea to link up a little car engine and somehow link it up to a motorcycle transmission and use that. What do you guys think and how could this even be done? I have seen it done before, but do not know how. Also, anyone know of any good auto salvage yards in CT?

Most modern motorcycles have a transmission inside the engine case and can not be removed. There are aftermarket Harley types out there with 6 speeds and reverse. It would be too complex for me trying to get the car engine mated to a bike trans. Where to put the Flywheel and clutch? I have a lot of experience mocking things up and I would not try this. If I was wanting to mock up a car engine to drive my trike, front wheel drive would be it. Or mount one "North-South" with a car trans and run a drive shaft back to a motorcycle shaft drive rearend. Just my opinion.
