Well, it is time to finally build it. I have been collecting parts and Ideas for 3 years, and I am done messing around. The concept for the RT1 is a 2 seater with a focus on Fuel economy without sacrificing power and speed. I have ideas around the entire vehicle, but every time I draw it, the vehicle on paper never matches whats in my head.
Over the past few months, I have made quantum leaps in my design and progress. Here is what I have:
Bike: Yamaha Venture Royal 1300cc. This bike is low miles and runs like a top. It even has cruise control . total cost $500.00 (yes, I am a bit of a Craigslist freak). After some research I found this to be the basic same motor as the Vmax, just higher displacement and lower compression. All aftermarket speed parts that fit the Vmax, fit this motor.
c0ckpit: I was able to find a Dune buggy Chassis just down the street from my house with no engine. This is a Tomberlin Crossfire 150cc Go Kart frame that I am using it for is the tube chassis component. It will require a large amount of fabrication and gusseting. The tube is nice and thick and will be very safe. I will need to make it wider though to accommodate "real" people. Cost $250.00
Front end and steering: I have a complete front end out of a Mustang II. The reason I chose this was because it is easy to find aftermarket parts. It is a reliable setup. It has a manual rack, and I have upgraded it to a 5 lug Chevy spindle and big brakes. Cost $150.00
I have Aluminum rims out of a late model Camero, and seats out of a Sunfire.
